Brown paced the Pro Stock Motorcycle field with a blistering 6.983-second run at 191.51 mph, while his teammate, Angelle Sampey, ended up fourth in the order. U.S. Army Pro Stock Motorcycle rider, Antron
Brown, became the third member of the coveted sub-seven second club here Friday during the first day of qualifying for the FRAM-Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway.
In Top Fuel, U.S. Army driver, Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher, also claimed the number one spot with a track record run of 4.486-seconds at 328.94 mph.
“I’m really happy for the entire U.S. Army team,” said Brown. “We’ve been working so hard for so many weeks. It’s nice to see things like this happen. Of course, we’re not going to sit on this mark. We’ve got a race to win.”
Sampey, who came into the race weekend second in the points, posted a not so shabby 7.024-second pass at 190.54 mph to slide into the top four.
“We’re certainly right there with the big guys,” said the three-time world champion. “I love racing out here in Sonoma. It’s such a great facility and we typically produce some good results. Here’s hoping Antron and I are in the finals come Sunday.”
Brown’s quarter-mile jaunt in “Wine Country” was the second quickest in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle history. For his efforts, he will receive a $2,000 bonus check for joining the NHRA Mickey Thompson Six Second Pro Stock Motorcycle Club.
