Antron Brown qualifies ninth

April 16

Antron Brown guided his Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster into the ninth starting position here Saturday for tomorrow’s 2nd annual VisitMyrtleBeach.com NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway.

Brown, who arrived in the Tar Heel State holding second-place in the NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel standings, used a 3.864-second run at 316.15 miles per hour to gain entry into the final race-day lineup

“We’re looking forward to Sunday’s race,” said the New Jersey native. “The team is amped up and I’m pumped up.

“The Matco Tools team has been working real hard and we’re where we need to be. We have a good game plan for tomorrow.”

Trailing leader Del Worsham by eight points, Brown will be seeking his second straight victory of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series season. He captured the Las Vegas event two weeks ago.

“The car is running really strong,” he said. “We set out to have a good start to the year and so far that’s been the case. You won’t get any complaints from me.”

Brown will join Worsham, Morgan Lucas and David Grubnic for the first round of eliminations in this unique four-wide setup beginning at noon EDT. The top two will advance to the second round.
