Battle of the teammates bites Massey in Arizona, Prestone/FRAM team defeated in the second round

February 19

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 19, 2012) - The tables turned on Spencer Massey and the Prestone/FRAM Top Fuel team today at the NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird Raceway.

Massey defeated former Don Schumacher Racing driver Cory McClenathan in the opening round of eliminations, pitting him against current teammate Antron Brown in the second round.

"It's tough racing your teammates in the second round," said Massey.
"DSR has the best equipment and the best cars out here, so you know when you race one of our cars, it's going to be a battle.

"We got them last week and they got us back this week."

With temperatures warming up for the second round of eliminations, crew chief duo Phil Shuler and Todd Okuhara needed to pull the reins in on the Prestone/FRAM dragster.

"We knew that Antron was going to run very well," Massey said. "We tried backing the car up a little bit because the track was getting hotter but this Prestone/FRAM dragster wants to go fast.

"It wanted to run another 3.76 or 3.77 and it's tough to do that when it gets hot outside like it was today."

The Prestone/FRAM team will return to the Don Schumacher Racing headquarters in Brownsburg Ind., for two off weekends before the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series resumes in Gainesville, Fla., on March 9-11.

"We will just move on to the next race. It says a lot that for the first two races this season, both finals in the Top Fuel class have been all Schumacher cars. That's just how we like it."
