New DSR chassis delivers Massey, FRAM team their second Top Fuel pole of season heading to eliminations

July 21

MORRISON, Colo. (July 21, 2012) – Spencer Massey and the FRAM/Prestone Top Fuel Dragster tuned by crew chiefs Todd Okuhara and Phil Shuler continues to be the dominant team in their NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series category.

The Don Schumacher Racing team won its second pole of the season and will go for a series-best fifth event title on Sunday in championship eliminations of the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in the Rocky Mountains outside of Denver.

Massey’s run late Friday afternoon of 3.194 seconds and 309.49 mph held up through that day’s night session and hot, sunny conditions on Saturday were unsuitable for the time to be challenged.

“I didn’t think anyone including us would be able to be that quick on Saturday,” said Massey, who won the Mile-High title a year ago when he defeated teammate tony Schumacher. “It was a hot day but helped us get information to prepare for winning rounds on Sunday because the weather should be similar.”

A compliment to the crew and fabrication shop at Don Schumacher Racing based in Brownsburg, Ind., is that the dragster Massey is running this weekend was started for the first time on Thursday and made its first pass earned the pole.

“We always have confidence because our team is great and the car is awesome,” said Massey, who finished last year second in points.

“We have so much data back at Don Schumacher Racing. The chassis builders back at the shop give it 110 percent. Hats off to Don Schumacher Racing’s chassis builders.”
