NHRA Top Fuel Champion Tony Schumacher Auctions Off Prized Helmet

GRANDVIEW, MO (Nov 16, 2006) – The same day that NHRA Top Fuel driver Tony Schumacher won what it is being called the most dramatic drag race in history, he put one of his prized Army helmets up for auction. The helmet, which he wore during his comeback win in Las Vegas, is personally autographed by Schumacher and his legendary crew chief Alan Johnson. The auction is being hosted by GoMotorBids.com, the official online auction house of Don Schumacher Racing, and has no reserve price.
The helmet itself holds significant historical value, as the Las Vegas win was part of an amazing comeback in which Schumacher overcome one of the biggest mid-season point deficits in NHRA history, giving him the outside chance of a championship coming into the final race in Pomona. In Pomona, Schumacher had to win two more rounds than competitor Doug Kalitta and set a national ET record in order to win the championship, and miraculously managed to do both.
