Stevens lands in quarters in Dallas
09/23/2007
Richie Stevens Jr. finished in the quarterfinal round today at the O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals after defeating Warren Johnson in the opening round by .0702 of a second. Steven's solid 6.699-second pass at 205.63 mph clearly outran W.J.'s 6.763/204.39 after both launched with nearly identical reactions times: .070 for Stevens, .076 for Johnson.
Facing off with Jason Line in the second round, Stevens fell victim to Line's almost-perfect reaction time of .004 to Stevens' .075, losing that round by .0766 of a second. Line scored the win with a 6.705/206.48 pass to Stevens' 6.710/205.60.
"Tough day," said Stevens. "We should have gotten around him. We slowed up a little bit, and he ran a little bit quicker than us. But he nailed the tree pretty good. He was .004. I was a little late; I was .75. I couldn't have beat him no matter how you look at it, even with a perfect light.
"I was a little off today. I've got to get my game face back on, and see if we can't go some rounds in Richmond, Va.
"We're going to go testing again. The Team Mopar/Valspar Dodge is running pretty good. We have the car dialed in and got the clutch back to where it needs to be. Now I just have to get myself where I need to be."
